Our primary angioplasty was launched in July 2006, and to date, every individual who has undergone the procedure has achieved outstanding patient results. Our "door-to-balloon" time, a measure to insure quality of care for cardiac patients has been excellent, and in order to accommodate the needs of this growing service, the hospital plans to construct a new cardiac catheterization lab.
In 2006, Christ Hospital increased our deliveries of newborns by 7.4 percent, while decreasing our C-section rate by nearly 5 percent. In addition, the hospital expanded our maternity services by offering perinatological services, such as amniocentesis, biophysical profiles, non-stress tests, and other procedures related to maternal diagnoses.
As the regional radiation center Christ Hospital is the only facility in Hudson County to offer IMRT therapy, which is the most significant breakthrough in cancer treatment in recent years. To facilitate the administration of IMRT, radiotherapists at Christ Hospital use B-Mode Acquisition and Targeting (BAT), an ultrasound-based system. Plans for 2007 include constructing a new infusion center for patients needing chemotherapy.
Christ Hospital also offers specialized neurological and spinal surgery, and such disorders as brain and spinal tumors, cere-vascular abnormalities, hydrocephalus, head and spine trauma, degenerative disc diseases, herniated discs and spinal stenosis are routinely treated.
In addition to providing traditional medical and surgical care, our inpatient units include: critical care; pediatrics; oncology; obstetrics; and psychiatric. Outpatient services include: cardiology; physical, occupational and speech therapy; counseling and resource center; radiation oncology; emergency medicine; same-day-surgery; nutrition counseling; and sleep disorders lab.
